Carolyn was raised vegetarian, so her journey to working in the animal rights movement essentially started at birth. (Rumor has it that “dog” was her first word!) She has lived, studied, and worked in Atlanta, Paris, New York City, and Washington, D.C. She now lives in Los Angeles, where she enjoys eating/drinking/wearing all the vegan things—including cheap(er) avocados—and not being cold.
“Almost all of us grew up eating meat, wearing leather, and going to circuses and zoos. We never considered the impact of these actions on the animals involved. For whatever reason, you are now asking the question: Why should animals have rights?”
— Ingrid E. Newkirk, PETA President and co-author of Animalkind
