Be a Hero to Animals in Labs

If you work in a laboratory or other facility that uses animals—or if you sweep the floors, empty the trash, or find yourself in a laboratory for some other reason—you may learn about cruel experiments, negligence, mistreatment, or preventable accidents that harm animals.

By reporting your concerns to PETA, you’ll allow us to expose this cruelty and file the appropriate complaints so that institutional and government oversight bodies can investigate and take action against those responsible.

Whistleblowers: Champions for Animals

Whistleblowers have been instrumental in revealing horrific abuse at scores of laboratories that has resulted in shocking exposés, federal fines, citations, corporate and government policy changes, and the complete end of some cruel experiments on animals. In one recent case, an insider leaked video footage to PETA of a military trauma training drill in which improperly anesthetized goats had their limbs cut off with tree trimmers. Following PETA’s complaints, federal authorities cited the training company for violations of the Animal Welfare Act, zoning officials issued a warning prohibiting further courses in the city, and Congress requested an investigation into the contractor.

What You Can Do

Based on something that you’ve seen or heard about, you may also be in a position to help animals tormented in experiments.

Please contact PETA if you see or learn about anything that causes you concern, including the following:

  • Animals who have been sickened or injured in experiments in laboratories, classrooms, or medical training courses
  • Animals who are not receiving adequate veterinary care
  • Animals who show signs of distress (e.g., pacing in their cages or self-mutilating)
  • Animals who are given insufficient pain relief during or after painful procedures
  • Animals who are caged in a manner that leads to aggression and attacks on one another
  • Animals in filthy or dangerous housing (e.g., cages with broken wires)
  • Animals without sufficient food or water
  • Animals who are killed in painful ways (e.g., mice who have their heads cut off with scissors or live animals who are placed in freezers)
  • Primates who are kept in barren cages
  • Animals who are identified in cruel ways (e.g., by amputation of their toes)
  • Animals experimented on when non-animal alternatives are available
  • Animals cruelly transported to a laboratory via truck, plane, or ship

Please err on the side of caution by reporting anything that troubles you, and PETA will look into it.
