Simple Truth Deli Slices

Another day, another vegan item from Kroger’s own brand hits the shelves! Under the radar, Simple Truth launched two new vegan deli slice options—Ham Style and Turkey Style. Look for them in the refrigerated vegan section (alongside other animal-friendly meats like those from Tofurky, Yves Veggie Cuisine, and Lightlife).

Simple Truth Emerge Plant-Based Patties and Meatless Grind

Made from textured pea protein, Simple Truth’s Emerge brand offers vegan burger patties and Meatless Grind, perfect for grilling or cooking up in a hearty vegan pasta sauce.

The Essentials

Fruits, vegetables, tofu, and vegan butter: If you keep these items in your fridge at all times, you’re good to go. Thankfully, Kroger stores nationwide carry lots of them all. Stock up on your favorite fruits and veggies, keep plenty of House Foods tofu or Wildwood organic baked tofu readily available, and never, ever run out of vegan butter—we like Miyoko’s cultured vegan butter.

Earth Balance sticks are also great for baking.

Dairy-Free Necessities

Plant-based milks are must-haves. Thankfully, Kroger stores carry Califia Farms, Blue Diamond Almond Breeze, Rice Dream, Good Karma, and more brands. Choose from soy, almond, coconut, rice, or flax milk—click here to learn more about choosing the right vegan milk option for you.

Say “cheese!” Yes, Kroger supermarkets even carry vegan cheeses. Choose from Follow Your Heart shreds and slices, Treeline Treenut cheeses, and Miyoko’s vegan mozzarella, organic vegan sundried tomato cheese wheel, and chive cheese wheel.

What fridge would be complete without a few essential condiments? We recommend Annie’s organic vegan Worcestershire sauce, Newman’s Own Organics Balsamic Vinegar, as well as Follow Your Heart’s original Vegenaise, Vegenaise horseradish sauce, and high omega vegan ranch, which pairs perfectly with Gardein Meatless Meatballs:

Other dairy-free favorites at Kroger include yogurts from Forager Project and Yoplait. Kroger’s Simple Truth brand even makes plant-based chocolate pudding, an easy dessert option or snack for a kid’s lunchbox. The store’s brand also includes organic nondairy cream cheese, sour cream, and French onion dip, all made from butter beans, oats, and coconut oil.Simple Truth Vegan Cream Cheese

To supercharge your morning coffee or protein shake routine, check out Califia Farms cold brew coffeesOrgain vegan protein shakes, and Starbucks vegan Frappuccino chilled coffee drinks with almond milk in mocha or vanilla flavors. Keep some packets of Kroger’s Simple Truth Vanilla Coconutmilk Creamer Powder in your desk for a quick coffee break.

Pantry Must-Haves

Carbs

Always make sure that your pantry is well-stocked with bread, pasta, and more bread. Kroger stores sell a variety of vegan-friendly pasta and bread, like Tolerant organic red lentil fettuccini and organic slices from Dave’s Killer Bread. And for breakfast, steel-cut oatmeal always does the trick.

Sauces, Syrups, and Beyond

Every well-stocked pantry should have a few basics on hand, and they’re all available at Kroger stores. Nut butters are often vegan, but Justin’s are some of our favorites—just be sure to avoid ones with honey.

Pasta sauce like Victoria’s marinara, curry paste like Thai Kitchen’s, and enchilada sauce like La Victoria’s mild traditional version are also pantry staples. Oh, and don’t forget agave syrup like Simple Truth’s organic blue agave—because, remember, honey belongs to bees.

Heat ‘n’ Eat

Sometimes, you just need to be able to pop dinner into the microwave and call it a night. Enter all the heat ‘n’ eat meals available at Kroger stores: Try Barilla’s marinara penne and tomato and basil penne, Amy’s Kitchen’s organic minestrone soup, Annie Chun’s miso soup bowl, Daiya cheezy mac alfredo style, and more.

Simple Truth Plant-Based Vegan Pasta Sauces

Available in Bolognese and Alfredo varieties, these ready-to-heat jarred pasta sauces make weeknight cooking a breeze.

Snacks

Chips

Kettle Brand chips can be found at many Kroger stores, and many flavors—like chili lime and dill pickle—are vegan.

Other “accidentally vegan” munchies, like classic Pringles original potato chips and new Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos, are also available at most Krogers.

Protein Bars

Clif Bars can be found in most supermarkets, and many varieties are vegan. One of our favorites is the blueberry almond butter flavor.

Clif Builder’s chocolate protein bar is vegan, too, as are ProBar Meal’s oatmeal raisin flavor and several Lärabar flavors.

*****

When you add up the damage done by the meat industry to our health, the environment, and animals, the question isn’t really “Why should I eat vegan?”—it’s “Why wouldn’t I eat vegan?” Thanks to Kroger supermarket locations nationwide—including subsidiaries Ralphs, Dillons, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, QFC, Fry’s, Smith’s, and JayC Food Stores—animal-free eating has never been easier.
