PETA Wants to Turn Meat Truck Into What …?

The former Cornbelt Beef packing plant in Detroit is for sale, and PETA has sent an inquiry to the real estate agency handling the property. Specifically, we’d like to buy the killing tools and implements as well as one of the company’s old trucks and transform everything into a mobile empathy museum. Unlike the Wienermobile, this vehicle would show the public the pain and torment that go into every bite of those disgusting hot dogs.

Since thousands of cows met their terrifying deaths at Cornbelt, we can assume that there are captive-bolt guns that are used to shoot animals in the head, “bleeding shackles” used to drag animals along a track as they bleed out, a Living Cattle Pneumatic Fixed Killing Box used to confine animals while slaughtering them, and saws used to cut up their bodies. There may also be blood-holding tanks, hydraulic skin-removing machines, electric prods, and razor-sharp meat hooks.

Cattle frequently collapse during the hellish trip to slaughter and are often prodded or dragged off the trucks kicking and screaming. The speed with which the kill lines move means that some animals are skinned and dismembered while they are still conscious and can feel every cut.

Many people find it easier to think of the flesh they eat as “steak,” “wings,” or “bacon” rather than a living, breathing cow, chicken, or pig. PETA’s empathy museum would open eyes, hearts, and minds.
