You Won’t Believe What Burger King Is Doing to Chickens Now!

Published by Michelle Reynolds.

Even for Burger King—which rakes in profits by killing millions of chickens every year—this cruel display made our jaws drop. The fast-food chain is forcing a chicken it has named “Gloria” to visit different restaurants and decide whether or not other chickens who were killed for their flesh will be served as “chicken fries” that day.

Had Burger King’s marketing team done any research at all about chicken behavior, they would have learned that chickens have adept communication skills and good memories and develop complex social structures, all signs of advanced intelligence comparable to that of mammals. Chickens protect their young and look out for other members of their group. Having Gloria choose, by pecking into one of two bowls, whether others of her kind will be made into fries is stomach-turning.

What You Can Do

Join the campaign: Tweet @BurgerKing and let the company know that if chickens actually had a real choice, they would all choose to live and let live.
