PETA Foundation Deputy General Counsel Delcianna Winders has released the following statement regarding California’s new bill that would ban bullhooks:

A bullhook has one purpose and one purpose only, and that’s to hurt elephants and force them to obey out of fear of punishment. Sen. Ricardo Lara’s bill would put an end to the kind of bullhook abuse that recently led to cruelty charges against UniverSoul Circus, and PETA looks forward to seeing this bill become law.
