The ‘Trophy Animals’ PETA Wants You to Hang on Your Walls

Published by Alanna Ramsier.

While “cruelty-free trophy animals” kind of sounds like an oxymoron, now thanks to Little Stag Studio, there actually is a cruelty-free way to have striking animal mounts in your home. Artist Kelly Rene Jelinek creates uniquely beautiful faux-taxidermy art using scraps of upholstery fabric.

She describes the inspiration for her art as follows: “When I was a child, I spent most of my time with my nose in fairytale books. I absolutely marveled how the impossible was made possible in those stories: animals could talk, trees could move, and the most mundane of objects could become something magical and important.”

She goes on to say, “I find that I am constantly trying to make ‘real life’ more magical and extraordinary through the artwork that I create. The faux taxidermy art that I create is a great example of this: something traditional and commonplace is transformed into something new and exciting.”

In addition to offering mainstay pieces, such as “lions,” “deer,” “bison,” and “horses,” Jelinek can custom-make upholstered pieces modeled on more than 50 other animals, including even dinosaurs.
