The secret life of pets isn’t really a secret at all: Dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, and other companion animals are part of our families—and that message is evident in the new movie The Secret Life of Pets.

Despite its title, the film isn’t just about what our animal companions do at home while we’re at work. It’s also about what homeless animals do when they’ve been cast out to fend for themselves. Even though the movie is entertaining, it conveys an important message: We should always adopt, rather than buying from a pet store or a breeder. We have to remember that deciding to make an animal a part of the family is a lifelong commitment—a decision to be taken very seriously. But sharing your life with a rescued animal will bring you sheer joy.

Spread the word to family, friends, and coworkers that they can save a life by adopting a homeless animal.
