Video: Cows Won’t Leave Fallen Friend

Published by Angela Henderson.

If there were ever any doubt that animals form strong bonds with one another and can mourn the loss of one of their own, look no further than these cows. According to reports, a group of cows was crossing a busy street in Ma On Shan, Hong Kong, when a car struck one of them. The black bull sustained a broken leg and later died, but not before experiencing a remarkable show of compassion:

我好想撞到牛的人看看呢段片。牛群冇放棄被撞的牛,一直想叫牠起來。更新: 當日下午看新聞知道該名肇事司機在現場協助調查,四驅車撞到凹陷。希望她在現場能親眼看到牛群傷感的整個情況。同時亦希望其他駕駛者看看,牛是失去了位親人。爲自己、爲乘客、爲路上的一切,小心駕駛。

Despite the threat of cars whizzing past, the cows stayed put. They watched over their fallen friend, gently nudging him in an attempt to move or comfort him.

Cows are as diverse as cats, dogs, and people: Some are bold and adventurous, while others are shy and timid. Some are friendly and considerate, but others are bossy and devious. They mourn the deaths of and separation from those they love, even shedding tears over their loss. These cows were no different.

What You Can Do

Like all animals, cows value their lives and don’t want to die. The meat and dairy industries don’t view these intelligent animals as the individuals they are but merely as products. Help end the suffering of all cows by ditching dairy foods and meat.
