Virginia Man Charged With Cruelty for Crippling Dog

October 2003

A Virginia man picked up a dog from the road and then threw her to the ground, crippling her. The dog was reportedly unable to walk and had to be carried by the abuser. A whistleblower contacted local police and then called PETA for assistance when she was told that the investigating officer would be off for the next three days, during which time no one would know about the dog’s fate. We contacted the police and insisted that they send someone out. The dog was taken to the vet for treatment for a broken leg, and the owner was charged with cruelty to animals.
