Shake Shack Calls for an End to Dehorning

Shake Shack issued a new animal-welfare policy, which states that the company is encouraging its “suppliers to use selective breeding of dairy cows to eliminate the need of dehorning.” Most cows in the dairy industry are dehorned, a painful process that involves, among other cruel methods, jamming searing-hot irons into their heads in order to destroy the tissue that would otherwise develop into horns.
