These animals were once neglected, cold, hungry, and unwanted—but in a new PETA video released just in time for Valentine’s Day, their adoptive guardians share the moment that they fell in love with their new family members. And thanks to all that TLC, the animals—from a pig who once starved in a hoarder’s home but now gets to chow down on fresh cantaloupe and honeydew to a dog who was once stranded alone during a hurricane but now has a BFF to play with—are thriving in their new homes.

The video ends by encouraging everyone to spread the love by adopting an animal in need from a shelter and never buying from breeders or pet stores.

PETA’s motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way,” and more details about all the animals’ rescue stories are available on PETA’s blog.
