Wichita County, Texas

As a tornado watch is affecting counties the Wichita County area, animals are at risk and can be injured or killed, too.

Animals should never be left chained or penned outdoors, where they have no protection from strong winds, flying debris, or collapsing structures. Dogs have been sucked into the air—doghouse and all—during tornadoes, so please advise listeners to keep their animals safe indoors. Anyone who sees animals in distress and is unable to help should note their locations and alert authorities immediately.

Keep their animal companions with you if it becomes necessary to move to a stronger structure or take shelter underground.

PETA has released a disaster-preparedness public service announcement. Make plans to ensure the safety of your animal companions in advance of a natural disaster in order to avoid being caught unprepared. For more information, please visit PETA.org.
