Up to $5,000 Reward: PETA Seeks Anyone Who Recognizes Starved Dog Found Dead in Abandoned Crate

PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for starving and then abandoning a dog who was found dead in a crate by the roadside near Forsyth and is asking if anyone can identify the dog, perhaps from the multicolored collar decorated with cartoon bones and a pink buckle.

On Tuesday morning, the Macon County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a dead dog—a fairly large breed with brindle coloring (brown with darker markings)—on Sawyer Road, south of the intersection with Illiniwick Road. Two blue blankets were found partially covering the cage, and the dog may have pulled parts of them inside, indicating that the animal may have still been alive when abandoned. Macon County Animal Control is investigating but has yet to identify a suspect, so PETA is asking the public to help crack the case.

“This dog evidently wasted away and was dumped on the side of the road like garbage, either dead or dying, and no doubt terrified and miserable, desperate for warmth and comfort,” says PETA Senior Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “If there are other animals in the culprit’s custody, they could be in grave danger, and PETA urges anyone with information to come forward right away.”
