Washington – Please see the following statement from PETA regarding the report from the Government Accountability Office:

Animal experimentation is a scam of the highest order. U.S. universities are conducting scientifically bogus experiments on animals, such as force-feeding baby rats booze, electro-shocking them, and plunging them into inescapable beakers of water in an absurd attempt to recreate the social conditions and trauma of child abuse. This nightmarish system continues because experimenters and their universities get to line their pockets with enormous sums of public money, even if their research produces no return on investment. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) must defund this pseudoscience and redirect taxpayer funds exclusively to the important human-based research that the agency also supports.
