Washington – Please see the below statement from PETA President Ingrid Newkirk in response to the Washington Capitals’ first-ever Stanley Cup championship win:

PETA’s staff at its D.C. headquarters and thousands of PETA members and supporters in the capital are congratulating the Capitals on their historic win by offering to pick up the check for a team victory dinner of sweet and sour seitan, vegan fried chicken, and more from D.C.’s Pow Pow restaurant on H Street any time in the next month. With more and more athletes scoring a hat trick with healthy, humane, and eco-friendly vegan fuel, PETA is determined to have our hometown heroes boost their energy even more and enjoy longer lives on—and off—the rink.

PETA’s motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat,” and more information about vegan eating is available at PETA.org.

 Ingrid E. Newkirk
