Group Will Ask Shoppers to Bring Comfort and Joy to Animals by Keeping Them off Their Plate

St. Charles, Mo. – Tomorrow, a pig mascot in a Santa hat will lead PETA members as they hand out free vegan holiday roast samples from the Vegan Deli & Butcher along with mashed potatoes and gravy to passersby on Main Street to encourage them to make kind culinary choices this holiday season.
When: Saturday, December 19, 11 a.m.
Where: 524 S. Main St. (at the intersection with Pike Street), St. Charles
“PETA is ready with tips, recipes, and more to help people celebrate a humane holiday by choosing a vegan feast this year,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “When it comes to having feelings, loving our families, and valuing our lives, we’re all the same, whether we have hooves, wings, or hands.”
In the meat industry, pigs’ tails are chopped off, their teeth are cut with pliers, and males are castrated—all without pain relief. At the slaughterhouse, they’re hung upside down and bled to death. Turkeys killed for food are also hung upside down. They’re dragged through an electrified bath, and they’re often still conscious when their throats are slit and they’re dumped into scalding-hot defeathering tanks.
