Mutilated Clydesdale to Shame Budweiser on St. Patrick’s Day

Merrimack, N.H. – As Budweiser’s Biergarten welcomes St. Patrick’s Day revelers on Friday, a mobile message from PETA will circle the spot as part of the group’s campaign calling on Budweiser to stop mutilating horses by amputating their tailbones. As recently revealed in a damning PETA video exposé, Budweiser severs horses’ tailbones by using a scalpel or a tight band that stops the blood supply to the tail, causing it to die and fall off—all so the Clydesdales will look a certain way when hitched to the beer wagon.

When:    Friday, March 17, 1 p.m.

“Horses need their tailbones, and cutting them off causes immense pain, affects their balance, and removes their first line of defense against biting and disease-spreading insects,” says PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo. “PETA is urging everyone to boycott Budweiser until the King of Tears stops disfiguring the Clydesdales.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
