Calabasas, Calif.

Hollywood and New York are full of sexy vegan A-listers over 50, from Woody Harrelson and Michelle Pfeiffer to Bill Clinton and Wendy Williams (who just lost 50 pounds on a vegan diet)—but Calabasas is no slouch, either. The city may be home to PETA’s 2015 Sexiest Vegan Over 50. That’s because 67-year-old Roger Ewing is one of 10 finalists in the annual contest sponsored by PETA Prime—a resource for baby boomers who want to live a healthy, humane, and rewarding life.

“Vegans tend to be slim, healthy, and energetic, so it’s no surprise that older vegans avoid the high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes that plague so many baby boomers,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “Each one of PETA’s finalists is sparkling with vitality and compassion for others, and there’s nothing sexier than that.”

A business owner, paddle boarder, amateur musician, and world traveler, Ewing calls plant-based foods “the very best fuel” for his active lifestyle. In the past year alone, he stepped up to rescue three homeless dogs—introducing a bonded pair to their forever family through Facebook—and launched a successful campaign on GoFundMe to help pay for an injured dog’s surgery after he was hit by a car. Thanks to his persistence and compassion, the campaign raised $4,200, and the lucky canine is now recovering in foster care. And he doesn’t stop there: When he’s not kicking back with his three lovable rescued cats, he’s bringing his plant-based energy to the gym or the road—running several miles a week.

Visitors to PETAPrime.org can see photos of all 10 finalists and cast their votes through November 13. Two winners (one male and one female) will be announced on November 23. PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—will select the winners based on several factors, including vote count. Each winner will receive a PETA photo shoot in Los Angeles and a selection of goodies from the PETA Catalog. See the full contest details here.
