Joanna Krupa Shows the Cruel Confinement of Orcas at SeaWorld

With every passing year and every scathing book published and documentary made about SeaWorld, people have come to understand just how cruel it is to hold orcas in captivity at SeaWorld. These majestic animals are trapped inside extremely small tanks—and Joanna Krupa wanted to stress the cruelty of holding orcas captive in the most jarring way she could. She highlights the anxiety, boredom, and longing for freedom that come with being confined to a virtual fishbowl.

Orcas in the wild live in pods, which are bonded groups of up to 30 orcas that travel together for their entire lives. The complex social structure of orcas makes their isolated existence at SeaWorld even more depressing to see.

Orcas are intelligent animals who swim up to 100 miles a day in the wild, but at SeaWorld, they’re confined to tanks that allow them to swim only a small fraction of that distance.

Watch Joanna’s exclusive behind-the-scenes conversation with PETA about her inspiration and passion for speaking out against SeaWorld and supporting an end to orca captivity.

SeaWorld is a horrible place for orcas, who experience stress, extreme boredom, and depression in captivity.

Remember: Every purchase of a SeaWorld ticket contributes directly to the suffering of these highly emotional animals, so please sign the pledge below promising not to visit SeaWorld.
