Here’s How Savings.com Is Saving Dolphins

A box of delicious dolphin-shaped vegan chocolates is on its way to Savings.com as a thank-you from PETA for the company’s recent decision to drop all promotions of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom because of its “swim with dolphins” program. After hearing from PETA that dolphins suffer from extreme emotional, physical, and psychological stress when they’re subjected to forced human contact, Savings.com agreed to eliminate all coupons to the park. It also previously pulled discounted SeaWorld tickets from its site.

Six Flags’ long history of violating even the minimal standards of the federal Animal Welfare Act include allowing feces and algae to accumulate in water, having inadequate shade over dolphin pools, and failing to provide animals with protection from abuse and harassment from the public. As noted by PETA, some dolphins, including babies, are torn away from their families and sold to marine parks around the world, while others are bred in captivity and spend their entire lives in cramped concrete pools. Captive dolphins are often housed in incompatible groups and develop ulcers and other illnesses as a result of the stress of captivity—and many die prematurely.
