PETA has placed a specially designed new ad on bus shelters near churches and meat-heavy fast-food restaurants all over Greenville—a top “Bible-minded city”—to ask everyone to remember that the Scriptures don’t list any exceptions to the commandment “Thou shalt not kill” and to help them go vegan.

“Every vegan saves nearly 200 of God’s creation a year from the unholy cruelty of the meat, egg, and dairy industries,” says PETA Vice President Daniel Paden. “PETA is encouraging people of all religions or none at all to embrace the Christian values of charity and compassion and show them to all living, feeling beings.”

The Bible states that God’s design for the world is one in which humans and other animals coexist peacefully and humans are caregivers—not killers. In Genesis 1:29, God says that the Earth’s seed-bearing plants and fruit “will be yours for food.” Not abiding by that means animals killed for food experience hell on Earth: Chickens’ and turkeys’ throats are slit while they’re still conscious, piglets’ tails and testicles are cut off without painkillers, and fish are suffocated or cut open while still alive on the decks of fishing boats. On dairy farms, calves are torn away from their loving mothers so that the milk meant for them can be sold.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” and which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview—offers a free vegan starter kit filled with tips, recipes, and more on its website

For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.

The ads are located at 1705 E. North St., 2406 E. North St., 2117 Wade Hampton Blvd., Wade Hampton Boulevard and Pine Knoll Drive, 100 Pelham Rd., 49 Orchard Park Dr., 1521 Laurens Rd., 2008 Laurens Rd., and 2443 Laurens Rd. and in the Haywood Mall parking lot near the entrance to the food court.
