Taiwan Pigeon Racers and Organizers Lose Appeal, Face Prison and Fines Following PETA Investigation

A judge in Taichung, Taiwan, upheld guilty verdicts for two Fengyuan Pigeon Club officers and 184 pigeon racers for illegal gambling. The club president was sentenced to one year in prison and fined over $200,000, the accountant was sentenced to nine months in prison and fined over $6,000, and the participants received fines. Combined with earlier Zhong Zheng Club prosecutions in Kaohsiung, this raises the total number of people charged to 221—the most who have ever faced prosecution as a result of a PETA investigation.
