How to Help Animals This Summer
Animals exploited by humans don’t get summer vacations. Here are five easy ways to help them this summer:
1. Ask hotel chain Marriott to stop serving foie gras. Send the company a message on Facebook and urge it to make the compassionate decision to stop serving the fatty livers of tortured birds. Not on Facebook? Repost the picture below to your Instagram account and be sure to tag the hotel chain.
2. Make sure that you don’t visit a roadside zoo this summer—or ever. Check out 10 of the many reasons why.
3. Speak up for hermit crabs, who are often captured from their homes and sold to people who buy them on impulse while on vacation and know little about their actual needs. Hermit crabs can live more than 30 years in their natural habitats, but most die within just a few months in captivity. Ask stores to stop selling them:
4. Right now for summer festivals, fairs, carnivals, and other events, exhibitors are carting animals around, keeping them caged or chained, and forcing them to perform confusing and pointless tricks. Speak up!
