Owner of Fish Stick–Maker Gorton’s Stops Deadly Animal Tests

After nearly a year of discussions with PETA, Nippon Suisan Kaisha Ltd. (Nissui Group)—Japan’s second-largest fish-seller and the owner of U.S. maker of “Fish Sticks” Gorton’s Inc.—has established a new policy against using laboratory tests on animals in order to make health claims about its food products and ingredients for marketing purposes.

From 2016 to 2018, Nissui Group conducted and funded cruel and deadly experiments that aren’t required by law on 303 animals. The experiments involved starving rats and mice, force-feeding them substances like fish oil and nicotine, inducing aneurysms, and forcing them to run and swim before bleeding and killing them.
