Below, please find a statement from PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews in response to the report that New York City will restrict horse-drawn carriage pickup lines to Central Park effective February 15:

Relocating the carriage lines to Central Park will spare hundreds of horses long days spent tied up alongside dangerous traffic, noisy construction, and ear-splitting sirens, though horses collapse and get into accidents in the park, too. PETA looks forward to the day when the horses are freed, but we’re happy about this improvement to their daily lives.

PETA’s motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment.” For more information, please visit PETA.org.
