On Wednesday, a team of PETA “Superkids”—vegetarian children dressed as superheroes—gathered in Victoria, British Columbia, for their latest mission: saving turkeys from ending up on the table this Thanksgiving. The compassionate kids passed out free vegan starter kits and Tofurky holiday roasts in special handmade craft bags reading, “Save the Turkeys.”

“Children have a natural affinity for animals, so it makes sense that PETA’s Superkids are such powerful animal protectors,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “They’ll spread the word that everybody can be a superhero for animals this Thanksgiving simply by enjoying a delicious vegan roast, a cruelty-free casserole, or a plant-based pot pie.”

Tofurky roasts spare turkeys the agony of being crammed into filthy warehouses and electrocuted before their throats are slit, often while they’re still conscious. Families who want the taste of turkey without the cruelty and cholesterol should try a vegan holiday roast, which is also packed with protein and free of saturated animal fat.
