Just in time for National Ice Cream Day on July 16—which, fittingly, falls in the middle of National Ice Cream Month—PETA has selected the Top 10 Vegan Ice Cream Sundaes from eateries across the U.S., and Austin’s Sweet Ritual easily scooped up a spot on the list with its very special Banana Split.

The shop’s award-winning dessert combines a caramelized banana topped with three scoops of Sweet Ritual’s signature dairy-free ice cream, such as the coconut milk–based (and rainbow-colored) Unicorn Poop, the fan favorite Rocky Road (complete with vegan marshmallows), and the cashew-based Cubano Coffee. Three toppings—such as salted caramel sauce, edible glitter, and gummy worms—make the sundae extra-special.

“With its caramelized banana and triple scoops of creative ice cream flavors, Sweet Ritual’s Banana Split is a decadent dairy-free delight,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “All the vegan ice cream sundaes on PETA’s list prove that you can indulge your sweet tooth while being sweet to mother cows.”

Not only is vegan ice cream free of saturated animal fat and cholesterol, it’s also kinder to mother cows on dairy farms, who are artificially impregnated and then separated from their newborn calves immediately after birth so that their milk can be consumed by humans instead.

Rounding out PETA’s list is the iconic Sublime Restaurant & Bar in Fort Lauderdale and Christopher’s Kitchen in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; Crossroads and KindKreme in Los Angeles; Banán in Honolulu; Boston’s Veggie Galaxy; Virtuous Pie in Portland, Oregon; Denver’s SNOWLAB; and The Cookie Counter in Seattle. Each winner will receive a framed certificate.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat or abuse in any other way”—also offers tips on its website for finding delicious dairy-free ice cream at grocery stores across the country.
