Video: Justin Long Gets Kicked Out of Canada Goose for Asking About Fur Policy

Actor Joins PETA in Calling for Company to Reveal How Trapped Coyotes Suffer and Die for Expensive Coats

This winter, actor Justin Long visited Canada Goose’s New York City store and asked employees where the fur on the coats’ hoods came from—and the entire interaction was caught on camera. As a new PETA video shows, employees refused to answer his questions. One instead pointed him to Canada Goose’s website, saying, “I’m not going to have this conversation right now.” Long was then removed from the store.

Afterward, Long sat down with PETA to discuss what happened. “One of the things Canada Goose will flaunt is the fact that their fur doesn’t come from a fur farm—that somehow the fact that they pay trappers to trap and then kill these animals is somehow better,” he says. “But … they’re just like the dogs you see people walking in the streets. The company didn’t really seem to care.”

PETA has released video footage showing that coyotes are shot by trappers—that is, if they don’t die from blood loss, infection, or frostbite first. Trapped mother animals desperate to get back to their starving pups have even been known to attempt to chew off their own limbs to escape.

That’s why Long says, “[U]ltimately, I would challenge Canada Goose that if they’re so proud of where they get the fur, why not show us where it really comes from?”

Long joins Maggie Q, who protested outside the Canada Goose headquarters earlier this year, and other celebrities—including Pamela Anderson, Paul McCartney, Charlize Theron, Joaquin Phoenix, Penélope Cruz, and Eva Mendes—who have teamed up with PETA (whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”) to promote kindness to animals.
