A severely battered dog was found in a trash can outside an apartment building in the Mount Hope neighborhood of the Bronx on Monday, her face badly bruised and her leg broken. The building’s superintendent found her and believed that she had been left to suffocate because bags of garbage had been piled on top of her. Residents quickly covered her in blankets and fed her as they waited for authorities to arrive. She was taken to the ASPCA Animal Hospital and is being treated for her injuries. Police have yet to determine who abandoned the 2-year-old poodle mix.

That’s why PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime.

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at 800-577-8477 (TIPS).
