Thanks to a PETA investigation and quick action by law enforcement, more than 100 recently rescued pigs have been running through grassy fields, cooling off in mud baths, chowing down on delicious fresh fruit, and receiving affection and tummy scratches from the staff at Rooterville Sanctuary in Florida—and you can meet many of them in this new PETA video.

Where these pigs live now and where they came from are as different as night and day: As PETA revealed in its investigation of Darlynn’s Darlins Rescue Ranch, Inc.—a hoarding facility posing as an animal rescue—they weren’t given anything to eat for up to five days at a time, and even when they were, it was often nothing but rotten scraps of produce and moldy bread. One pig named Spunky was covered with abscesses and forced to drag his paralyzed back legs, and pigs in dire need of veterinary care were left to die.

But authorities acted quickly on PETA’s evidence and rescued all the pigs as well as other animals. The pigs are now relaxing at Rooterville until the right adoptive guardians come along—perhaps one of your readers is equipped to care for one!

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—has posted more details about the pigs and their rescue on its blog.
