The campaign just launched against global “luxury” outerwear brand Canada Goose—and in a matter of days, PETA’s video juxtaposing Canada Goose’s coyote-fur jackets with a disturbing video of a trapped coyote suffering after being shot has received more than 16 million views on Facebook. And as celebrities like Kat Von D (1.73 million Twitter followers) and Pamela Anderson (1.7 million Twitter followers) share PETA’s video, Canada Goose is struggling to delete a flood of negative comments from its Instagram and Facebook pages.

“PETA’s video shows that every Canada Goose jacket means coyotes were caught in steel traps and left in pain, struggling and crying, until a trapper finally arrived to strangle, shoot, stomp on, or bludgeon them to death,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “With so many high-tech, faux-fur, feather-free materials available today, what kind of company still slaughters coyotes and geese for outerwear?”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—points out that trapped coyote mothers desperate to get back to their starving pups have been known to attempt to chew off their own limbs to escape, and many trapped animals succumb to the elements, blood loss, infection, or predators before trappers find them.

In addition, birds used for down spend their entire lives in crowded, filthy sheds and are transported in all weather extremes to the slaughterhouse, where their throats are slit. Innovative, high-tech synthetic filling materials such as PrimaLoft are warm, cozy, and allergen-free, and unlike down, they still insulate when wet.
