PETA Foundation Deputy General Counsel Delcianna Winders released a statement regarding California’s new bill that would ban bullhooks, which was approved yesterday by the Senate Public Safety Committee:

Bullhooks are used to beat, jab, and hook elephants—to teach them to obey or else suffer the painful consequences. California has taken another important step toward prohibiting these cruel weapons, and PETA looks forwarding to seeing this historic bill continue through the legislature, become law, and make California a leader in kindness to animals.
