Lying virtually naked on a giant plate—complete with to-scale cutlery and a side salad—emblazoned with the words “Try to Relate to Who’s on Your Plate,” a sexy PETA member will hit Tucson on Friday to encourage everyone to give animals a little comfort and joy this holiday season by leaving meat off their plates.

When:   Friday, December 20, 12 noon

Where:  Intersection of Congress Street and Stone Avenue, Tucson

“PETA is asking families to remember that pigs and turkeys are intelligent beings just like us who love their families, feel pain and fear, and don’t want to die,” says PETA Associate Director of Campaigns Lindsay Rajt. “The holidays should be a time to celebrate life—and that means choosing delicious vegan meals, not the flesh of abused animals.”

In addition to damaging the environment and human health, eating animal products causes suffering on a massive scale. In today’s industrialized meat and dairy industries, chickens and turkeys often have their throats cut while they’re still conscious, piglets have their tails and testicles cut off without being given any painkillers, fish are suffocated or cut open while they’re still alive on the decks of fishing boats, and calves are taken away from their mothers within 48 hours of birth. In the egg industry, millions of unwanted male chicks are gassed or ground up alive each year.
