Back-to-School in the Bag, Freebies to Nab!

The following is a guest post by PETA staffer Royale.

It’s August, and you know what that means—back to school! As far back as I can remember, I’ve always loved this month for that very reason. Not that I loved going back to school, but the shopping that commences just before one does so is, well, worth submitting to the semesters that follow. Although I graduated from college five years ago, I still go “back-to-school shopping”—hey, it’s nostalgic, and I’m practicing for when I have children of my own. So whether you’re heading back to the classroom or just want to honor tradition (hehe), you’re going to need a bag to carry you through until spring.

Some of you might be surprised to learn that millions of animals are slaughtered each year and turned into shoes, handbags, belts, and other accessories. With tons of fashionable and cruelty-free alternatives available, it doesn’t take a genius to realize that killing animals just ain’t smart. So don’t fail your animal friends this fall—go faux for all your back-to-school fashions.

Studious or studious, I’ve got just the satchels you’ve been searching for. Plus, two lucky winners have a chance to win my fabulous Navoh picks (this teacher’s playing favorites: the Christopher and Chambers) by leaving a comment below! Tell me what cruelty-free products you’d carry in your new bag—if there’s one thing that I like as much as accessories, it’s makeup!

    Hi there!
I would definitely be carrying my Urban Decay vegan make up cream to powder compact and soft mauve lipstick, 100% cruelty free, some dried fruits and nuts for that long day of hard school work and (hopefully by then…since I’ve been hit by our economy’s downsizing) work work, my reusable water bottle, my school books and notebook, some pens and pencils. I really hope to win one of these gorgeous purses! It would make me the happiest girl in the world!!! Their all so beautiful, and one can only hope that I’ll be blessed with such an amazing gift, to help show the world…vegans are amazing and beautiful too!!! :)

These bags are awesome! It’s always great to see new vegan options that are fashionable and affordable. I’ve been a real sucker for Matt and Nat bags in the past, and also, I discovered that Topshop carries a lot of their handbags in vegan leather.
What I would carry in this bag?
My aluminum water bottle, my cloth grocery bag, my vegan lunch in a reusable glass tuppperware, my books for teaching, and some of my cosmetic essentials from the Body Shop, Clinique, Burt’s Bees, and Cake (an amazing Canadian all natural, cruelty free line of hand and foot cremes)

  • Rebecca says:

I would love to have any of the featured bags. I typically carry my Tarte spf 15 sheer lip tint and Aubrey Organics sparkling complexion mineral water (great for a pick me up when it is hot outside). Both products are animal friendly and vegan. I love both product lines; however, you have to check the labeling. I am not sure if all of the products by these companies are vegan and animal friendly.

I would keep a small non-leather collar and lead in my purse so that the next time I see a skinny stray dog roaming along the road, I can better attempt to rescue the animal (keeping in mind personal safety of course, and the safety of others in the area).

  • Lily Bodden says:

Mostly what I carry with me is all my Bath and Body Works (which has all cruelty-free products) cosmetics, some money, and my phone and iPod, which both have cruelty-free stickers on them. The one on my phone says “Chains are for bikes. Don’t go to the circus.” The one on my iPod says “Respect all life, don’t disect.” I also have one on my inhaler, which says “Club soda, not seals.”

OMG!!!!!!! What beautiful cruelty-free bags. Well since I am a teacher who works with students and teachers. I have a lot of goodies that I am always carrying in my bags. First and foremost, I would carry vegan stickers and flyers to promote the ideas that I believe in and to educate people who want to learn about the vegan lifestyle. Next, I will carry my Gabriel makeup and vegan-sustaniable makeup brushes. Finally I will carry vegan snacks to keep me going throughout the day so that I am ready to educate non-vegan people!

  • Tara Logel says:

I have recently turned vegan. Life is changing all around me. Just started buying cruelty free products. Paying attention to things i never noticed before. would love to revamp my wardrobe and accessories soon. Getting ready to start a yoga teacher program. I need to lead by example. Would love to have one of these bags to fill with refillable water bottles, healthy vegan snacks for my kids and of course my lip gloss and foundation. Just found this new line of vegan approved make-up at the store. Made from bamboo! will buy as soon as I can afford it. Baby steps…I know.. sounds bad, but at least im being honest. My family cannot afford for me to buy new cosmetics right now especially before I am out. Just changing my diet has thrown a kink into grocery bill. But they are adapting and even starting to like and appreciate the changes. What an influence small changes make in the lives of those around us. Reinforces my belief that even one person changing their habits makes a difference for the animals too.

  • shelby dalton says:

  • JEAN says:

THE BAGS YOU ARE SHOWING ARE VERY NICE. THESE BAGS WILL NOT HURT ANY ANIMALS BY BEING CRUELY KILLED. PEOPLE TODAY HAVE NO LOVE FOR ANIMALS. THAT IS WHY WE HAVE LABS DOING WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO ANIMALS. THEY NEED TO PUT THEMSELVES IN THE ANIMALS PLACE. I AM SURE THEY WOULD HAVE SECOND THOUGHTS. I WOULD USE THE BAGS FOR MY NATURAL PRODUCTS. I LIKE TO USE ORGANIC THINGS.
