Some of the ingredients used in fragrances that come from animals are musk, and castoreum. Also, ingredients such as glycerides and glycerols, which are derived from fats, are likely to be partly or wholly derived from animal fats.

I am trying to develop a new line of vegan fragrances - colognes, perfumes and such. The final products will contain no animal products, and the final products will not be tested on animals. But it is possible that some of the ingredients we will use have been tested on animals, since the US Government requires animal testing on many chemicals. Is it still appropriate to state that our perfumes are vegan and not tested on animals, even if some of the ingredients might have been tested on animals by others? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, it would be helpful if you can direct me to other sources of reliable information.

On the Oud 27 website, I saw ambergris as one of the components for the cologne. Isn't ambergris derived from sperm whales? Can someone from PETA or the article writer confirm, please?

* I forgot to mention, ANYTHING from Caswell & Massey is sure to be a winner. I have purchased both men and womens fragrances (many are unisex as well) and have never been dissapointed. EVERYTHING that Caswell & Massey sells (online & catalogue) are all cruelty-free, and have been since the time of honest Abe...no kidding many of Caswell & Massey's items have been favourites of presidents past including Lincoln and JFK.

The company Yves Rocher have a fragrance for men called Hoggar...smells so warm. Another fav. is Lolita Lempicka Homme(a must have!). I must check out that OUD stuff, as I LOVE woodsy scents for both myself and my man.

Frankly I don't see how brands like Donna Karan and Prada make the cruelty free list. Even if their colognes are cruelty free, their clothing lines certainly are not. I still don't trust them and I still won't buy them until their companies are 100% cruelty free - no testing, no ingredients.
