Teenager Admits to Beating Seals to Death

Written by PETA | September 21, 2011

Update: The Blenheim District Court has sentenced Jason Godsiff to two years in jail for beating seals to death, including some animals who were just a few days old. Jamaal Large, who denies the charges, has not yet been tried.

A New Zealand teenager has pleaded guilty to beating 23 seals to death with a metal pipe. Jason Godsiff said he killed the seals, including newborn pups, because he considered them “pests.” Another man, Jamaal Large, has also been charged in the deaths, but has not submitted his plea. If convicted, both men face heavy fines and jail time for killing protected animals.

As appalling as their actions are, even more disturbing is the fact that had these men been in Canada, they would not face any charges. In fact, they would have been encouraged. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper can’t seem to understand what people in New Zealand and all over the world already know: Bludgeoning seals to death is wrong. Despite international outcry and bans on seal products, the Canadian government continues to spend millions of dollars a year to fund their barbaric seal slaughter.

You can help by e-mailing Stephen Harper and letting him know that seals deserve protection everywhere that they are abused.

Normal behavior does not include beating animals of any kind! Lock this kid up and throw away the key!!

Today seals, tomorrow children….it’s a well researched fact that serial killers started out their killings with defenseless animals before graduating to humans for their “fun”. Anyone who can slaughter animals with no empathy for the pain they are dealing out is dangerous to us all- animals and people alike. There should be stronger laws governing these kinds of acts and the penalities need to be fitting the crimes!

Disgusting, deplorable. Why not send these kids to the middle east so their prey can fight back.

It’s sad that innocent animals suffer this type of abuse just because they exist.

May the same fate befall these 2 brats one day. What comes around goes around. There is no excuse for ANY type of cruelty to animals, for ANY reason. Food, experiments, circuses, clothing, etc. It’s all just wrong and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. In addition, I think these 2 fine specimens are well on their way to becoming serial killers. I can’t imagine how proud their parents are.

Why is it typically males in almost every case of abuse or slaughter? I hardly ever read anything about females taking out a gun, knife or baseball bat and thinking “Hey, just for fun, I think that I’ll go kill some innocent creature that I come across.” The male role models in these sub-human killers’ lives, need to learn to be humans among us, or we will never end this barbaric behavior in our world. They think that they are being a “man”, but the rest of us do realize just how “weak” and immature that they really are, to inflict pain and suffering on the precious mammals of our earth. There is a very hot place waiting for you, Jason, and others like you.
