Poll Finds That Supermajority of Americans Oppose Tests on Animals

We know that more citizens, lawmakers, and scientists than ever now agree that experiments on animals are unreliable, archaic, and abusive. And a recent opinion poll conducted by Lincoln Park Strategies shows that a supermajority of Americans are concerned about cruelty to animals in laboratories and ready to see experiments on them relegated to the history books.

Pollsters found the following:

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the federal Animal Welfare Act, the law created to protect animals in laboratories. The use of many species of animals in experiments is finally on a sharp decline, but the law still doesn’t protect mice or rats (who make up 95 percent of animals in laboratories). It also allows experimenters to withhold pain relief from animals who undergo painful chemical and drug tests and doesn’t mandate that superior non-animal research methods be used when available. Americans want this to change!
