Over the Fourth of July weekend, PETA will fly “Orcas at SeaWorld Want Freedom, Too!” banners over SeaWorld Orlando orca shows.

When:             Sunday, July 3, 2–4 p.m. and Monday, July 4, 1–5 p.m.

Where:           SeaWorld Orlando, 7007 Sea World Dr., Orlando

PETA is taking a stand on Independence Day weekend to remind everyone that while people across the country celebrate freedom, orcas at SeaWorld are sentenced to a lifetime of imprisonment in tiny concrete tanks, where they are denied everything that’s natural and important to them.

The action follows the National Aquarium’s decision this month to transfer dolphins—including 17-year-old Jade, who was born at SeaWorld and has been confined to tanks for her entire life—to a seaside sanctuary. PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—is calling on SeaWorld to follow suit and develop seaside sanctuaries in which the long-suffering orcas can finally have some semblance of a natural life.
