U.S. Group's 'Try Vegan' Campaign Goes International With Anti-Pork Billboard, Three Little 'Piggies,' and Vegan Rib Giveaway

Toronto – PETA shed no tears when Quality Meat Packers, Ltd., recently shut down its pig slaughterhouse in “Hogtown.” In fact, the group is celebrating the closure with a vegan rib sandwich giveaway, three little “piglet” mascots, and a brand-new billboard showing a baby pig with the caption “You Can Live Without Those Ribs. I Can’t. Try Vegan!” The event—which will take place just a stone’s throw from the defunct slaughterhouse—marks the first time that PETA’s “Try Vegan” campaign has ventured outside the U.S. and aims to make the point that every vegan spares more than 100 animals a year from the horrors of factory farms and slaughterhouses. The campaign challenges people to think about eating meat from the perspective of the pigs, chickens, fish, and cows who are used for food.

“Pigs are intelligent, loyal, protective, and loving, and they should be thought of as friends, not food,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “Torontonians won’t miss the squeals and smells that came from the old slaughterhouse, and people who explore the ever-growing delicious vegan options soon discover that they don’t miss meat.”
PETA’s “Try Vegan” campaign has also visited Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.
