Statement on Virgin Announcement re Working With SeaWorld

For Immediate Release:
September 30, 2014

For the orcas, dolphins, and other animals imprisoned at SeaWorld now, Virgin’s announcement does not go far enough and is a letdown to those of us who thought of the company as progressive. Companies such as Southwest Airlines, Taco Bell, and STA Travel nixed promotions with SeaWorld after the public expressed its outrage over the park’s dismal confinement of sophisticated marine mammals, including orcas and dolphins. Virgin should join other businesses in shunning SeaWorld until the park heeds PETA’s call to release the captive orcas into coastal sanctuaries, where they’d finally have some semblance of a natural life.
