In the early hours of Monday, June 11, police responding to a call from a concerned citizen arrived at the intersection of Clayson and Bartor roads to discover a horrifying sight: Before them were the remains of 14 decapitated geese, some of whom were also missing their legs and wings. One goose who had managed to survive the attack was treated for two broken ribs and a puncture wound at the Toronto Wildlife Centre and is currently in stable condition. Because the corpses were intact apart from the mutilations, authorities believe that a human is responsible for the killings.

Authorities are investigating but have yet to make any arrests in connection with the crime, so PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction for cruelty to animals of the person or persons responsible.

“Someone out there cut the heads off 14 geese and tore off some of their legs and wings in a terrifying, violent act,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA and Toronto authorities need the public’s help to find whoever did this before anyone else gets hurt.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—offers tips for helping wildlife and reporting cruelty to animals on its website.

Anyone with information about the case should call the Toronto Police Service at 416-808-2222.
