It started as a protest, and now PETA’s Congressional Veggie Dog Lunch has become a Capitol Hill institution! To celebrate all the vegan progress that’s been made in the past 25 years, PETA and host extraordinaire Courtney Stodden are inviting members of Congress, their staff, and members of the public to be their guests and enjoy vegan foods from some of America’s most classic brands, including Nathan’s Famous vegan hot dogs, Hormel’s vegan chili, Hellman’s vegan mayo, and Dairy Queen’s nondairy Dilly Bars. There will even be dog toys in the shape of hot dogs—reading “Squeaky Toys, Not Pig Squeals”—for anyone with a dog at home.

When:    Wednesday, July 21, 12 noon

Where:    The entrance to the Longworth House Office Building, 1 Independence Ave. S.E., Washington

“At PETA’s first Congressional Veggie Dog Lunch, people thought a vegan was someone from Las Vegas—but today, every U.S. brand worth its salt has a tasty vegan option,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “We’re joining lawmakers and their staff to celebrate how far the U.S. has come, with PETA’s biggest animal-friendly, heart-healthy veggie dog cookout ever.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
