Québec City – Lying virtually naked on a giant plate—complete with to-scale cutlery and a side salad—emblazoned with the words “Try to Relate to Who’s on Your Plate,” a sexy PETA supporter will undoubtedly turn heads in Québec City on Friday. Her point? That animals raised and killed for food are capable of feeling joy, love, pain, and fear just as humans are.

When:   Friday, July 19, 12 noon

Where:  Southeast corner of Rue de la Couronne and Boulevard Charest E., Québec City

“Chickens aren’t nuggets, and pigs aren’t pork chops—they’re intelligent beings who deserve respect,” says PETA campaigner Emily Lavender. “With all the delicious mock meats and faux dairy products available these days, there’s never been a better time to go vegan.”

In addition to damaging the environment and human health, eating animal products causes suffering on a massive scale. In today’s industrialized meat and dairy industries, chickens and turkeys often have their throats cut while they’re still conscious, piglets have their tails and testicles cut off without being given any painkillers, fish are suffocated or cut open while they’re still alive on the decks of fishing boats, and calves are taken away from their mothers within 48 hours of birth. In the egg industry, millions of unwanted male chicks are gassed or ground up alive each year.
