Charlotte, N.C. – Competitive bikini fitness model and board-certified family and sports medicine physician Dr. Harriet Davis is no stranger to the spotlight—and as PETA’s newest Sexiest Vegan Next Door, she’ll have one more reason to shine. Dr. Davis beat out contestants from across the country to take home top honors. She’ll also enjoy a free vacation for two to Maui, Hawaii, courtesy of Humane Travel.

“Dr. Davis leads by example, showing patients, friends, and family alike how healthy and strong they can be with the help of plant-based meals,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA encourages anyone who’s impressed by our sexy vegans’ vitality and passion for helping animals to try going vegan for themselves.”

Forty-three-year-old Dr. Davis is living proof of the energy and fitness that come with decades of meat-free eating. Since she became a competitive fitness bikini model in 2013, she has consistently placed in the top 10 in competitions. “I use the competition stage as another opportunity to show others the type of strong and sexy physique one can develop just from eating plants,” she says.

And Dr. Davis doesn’t stop there—on her aptly named blog, Vegan Bikini Doc, she shares her favorite healthy vegan recipes with readers. At her medical practice, where she is also the director—and where she has been named a “Top Doctor” by Charlotte Magazine—she shares with patients how plant-based meals can help prevent a wide variety of health conditions, including obesity and heart disease. “As a result,” she says, “many of my patients have transitioned from the Standard American Diet to a plant-based diet.”

Trilingual professional fire performer Victor Ivan Barragan of West Valley City, Utah snagged the male title. PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—selected the winners based on several factors, including vote count. See the full contest details here.

“Almost all of us grew up eating meat, wearing leather, and going to circuses and zoos. We never considered the impact of these actions on the animals involved. For whatever reason, you are now asking the question: Why should animals have rights?” READ MORE
