After negotiations with PETA, cruelty-free company wet n wild recently made the decision that will send a positive message to cosmetics companies around the world. In January, its makeup brushes are going vegan! That means 17 new brushes—and no more animal-hair bristles.

PETA is working with a number of cosmetics companies to transition to 100% vegan brushes, including H&M, NYX, Purminerals, and M.O.T.D. After lengthy negotiations with PETA, many companies have already made the switch to 100% vegan synthetic fibers.

Makeup brushes are commonly made from squirrel, mink, sable, horse (sometimes called “pony”), or goat hair. Mink and sable brushes in particular are products of the cruel fur industry.

Many makeup brushes are manufactured in developing countries where there are few or no animal welfare regulations. If you wouldn’t wear fur, why would you use it to apply makeup to your face?

There’s no reason to use animal-hair brushes, especially when high-quality synthetic brushes are available at a store near you. Most wet n wild products are not only cruelty-free but also vegan. Visit the company’s website for a list of all its vegan products.
