There are lots of reasons why eating more fruit is a good thing. Doing so reduces the risk of developing heart disease, hypertension, and cancer. It can give you a natural tan. It can help you lose those love handles. Heck, fruit just tastes great.

Guess what? Eating more fruit can give you—ahem—a lift, too. According to a new study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, eating berries, oranges, and other fruit can help prevent erectile dysfunction (ED).

After studying more than 25,000 men over 20 years, researchers at Harvard University and the University of East Anglia in the U.K. found a link between three flavonoids—anthocyanins, flavanones, and flavones—and lower rates of ED. Flavonoids are rich in disease-preventing antioxidants, and blueberries, strawberries, citrus fruits, and even red wine are loaded with them. Fruit is also high in fiber, which cleans out clogged arteries. ED and narrowed arteries usually go hand-in-hand.

It was once thought that anxiety was at the root of ED. Wrong—90 percent of the cases are physical. The study found that eating lots of fruit lowers the risk of ED by 14 percent.
