PETA Remembers Fur-Free First Lady Barbara Bush

Below, please find a statement from PETA President Ingrid Newkirk regarding Barbara Bush:

PETA will always remember Barbara Bush as the first lady who refused to wear the fur coat she was offered for her husband’s inauguration and instead smiled and waved at the PETA members with “No Fur!” signs standing outside the celebration. She leaves a legacy of compassion for animals that has been followed by Michelle Obama, Melania Trump, and other fur-free first ladies around the world.

PETA’s motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear or abuse in any other way,” and more information about the group is available at PETA.org.
