PETA Will Encourage Everyone to Choose Merciful Meals This Christmas

What:    Just days before Christmas, three PETA supporters dressed as Jesus will gather outside the new Museum of the Bible on Wednesday with signs proclaiming, “Thou Shalt Not Kill: Go Vegan.”

When:    Wednesday, December 20, 12 noon

Where:    Museum of the Bible, 400 Fourth St. S.W. (near Virginia Avenue S.W.), Washington, D.C.

“Going vegan is the perfect way to honor the Christmas message of peace on Earth and goodwill to all members of creation,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA is encouraging everyone to celebrate with compassion by choosing a delicious vegan roast for the holiday table.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—notes that vegan meals spare animals immense suffering. In the meat industry, the tails and testicles of piglets are cut off without painkillers, the throats of chickens and turkeys are cut while they’re still conscious, and fish are cut open while they’re still alive on the decks of fishing boats.

PETA’s website offers free vegan starter kits and vegan holiday recipes for hearty roasts, succulent side dishes, and decadent desserts—all 100 percent cruelty-free.
