On Wednesday, as Yale University President Peter Salovey arrives for an alumni event at Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture, a group of PETA supporters will be waiting outside with signs proclaiming, “At Yale, the Caged Bird Dies” and “Yale, Stop Tormenting Songbirds!”

When:    Wednesday, October 18, 6:15 p.m.

Where:    Museum of Pop Culture, 325 5th Ave. N., Seattle

PETA notes that since 2008, first at Tufts University and then at Yale, experimenter Christine Lattin has captured wild sparrows, subjected them to confinement and painful injections that affect their adrenal function, inflicted wounds on their legs without painkillers, rattled their cages every two minutes, restrained them in a cloth bag, and fed them crude oil mixed with feed, among other procedures. The birds are then killed.

“Christine Lattin has spent years traumatizing wild sparrows for studies that are meaningless to conservation efforts, to humans, and to birds,” says PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo. “PETA is calling on Yale President Peter Salovey to end these cruel experiments before one more bird dies at Lattin’s hands.”
